MONTGOMERY, VERMONT ― The Hazen’s Notch Conservation Trust (HNCT) recently completed its first project when it conserved a 160-acre woodland on Burnt Mountain in Montgomery, Vermont. The conservation easement held by the trust protects the natural resources, wildlife habitats and two popular pedestrian trails on the Burnt Mountain Conservation Area. Rolf Anderson donated the conservation easement on this parcel which he has owned since 1996.
“I have enjoyed seeing black bear, bobcat and moose here over the years. Creating the trails, welcoming the public to enjoy the forest, and conserving the land were my goals for this parcel,” said Rolf Anderson. “With this conservation easement, I have the satisfaction of knowing that the property is permanently protected.”
“Burnt Mountain is one our area’s most beloved mountains, which means there’s much to celebrate by the announcement of this easement,” said HNCT President Sara Caldwell. “Not only is the mountain a stunning part of our landscape, it also offers wonderful opportunities for people to enjoy the quiet beauty of the northern hardwood and montane spruce-fir forest. Thanks to the generosity and foresight of Rolf Anderson, current and future generations will most certainly benefit.”
